The band was briefly known as Repulsion before changing their name to Type O Negative.
Guitar tech John Watson played in Blood of Kings, and was a guitar tech for Carnivore.
"Bloody Kisses" was the first album on Roadrunner Records to ever reach Gold and Platinum status.
The band contributed an instrumental version of Haunted for the soundtrack to the video game Descent II.
Type O Negative gained exposure from their first tour ever in their career with NYHC legends Biohazard. Though the band play gothic metal, they have close ties with the NYHC community and collaborate with many of them.
The band have a tradition of producing their own albums.
Every album points out that "this release is a product of Vinnland." Vinnland is an imaginary country which, according to Peter Steele, is the US and Canada merged into a single nation (see official website for the story behind Vinnland.).
The band made an appearance on The Howard Stern Show in 1996, performing their cover of Neil Young's "Cinnamon Girl". Due to the briefness of their appearance on the show, the song's duration was significantly shortened to a mere 30 seconds.
Type O Negative is a band known for having a dark, cynical sense of humor. In 2005, the band played a cruel joke on their fans by stating that Peter Steele has passed away (on their official website, a picture reads "Eter Steele... Free At Last... 1962-2005.) The picture read "Eter" because a leaf was covering the "P" supposedly. The irony of this prank is that it was posted on Friday the 13th of May 2005. Steele eventually passed away on the 14th of April 2010 from heart failure.
In a November 2010 interview with Rock Hard magazine, Johnny Kelly and Kenny Hickey confirmed that following Peter Steele's death, the band is no more, making it likely that they are split-up.
