Brian Eno
很多人知道布莱恩·伊诺，是因为他曾任大卫·鲍伊、U2的唱片制作人，
制作了《猜火车》等多部电影音乐，但很少有人知道他在上世纪70年代始创“环境音乐”，并创造了很多“宁静的音乐”装置。
视觉艺术家、音乐家、唱片制作人、演说家……布莱恩·伊诺（BrianEno）是国际艺坛出名的“多面手”大师。
1975年的某天，Brian Eno因车祸住院。整天躺在床上不能动弹，他请朋友给他带来了一张竖琴音乐唱片。此时，屋外下起了大雨，雨点打在窗户上的声音和着极轻微的竖琴音乐，Brian Eno这个老机会主义分子忽然发现病房里的光线和色彩正随着雨声和音乐的交响微妙地起着变化。之后，我们就有了一种名为Ambient（环境音乐）的音乐横空出世。这是正式考证的Ambient的来由。事实上环境音乐观念的形成却要比Brian Eno的车祸要早得多。
从音乐性上看，可能Brian Eno无法与一些更加激进的音乐家相比。但确是他最早将音乐的环境功能用具体的音乐实践强化了出来。Brian Eno自己也一再强调，他的环境音乐是作为背景音乐而存在的。从他的专辑名称中就能看到这点：《Music for Airport》（飞机场音乐）、《Music for Film》（电影音乐）。他将音乐彻底与线性聆赏习惯分离了。这颇有当年Eilk Satier 意思。但个人以为，他的意义仅仅在于提出了Ambient这个概念，为许多行前的艺术家的作品正了名，仅此而已。此外，他所谓环境艺术观念的先行者也影响了一代新生艺术家。Brian Eno的环境装置艺术，在幻彩的霓虹下，还是相当赏心悦目的。
从Brian Eno开始，环境音乐由无意识的自由创作走向了观念的自发之路。一大批音乐家，几乎与朋克音乐平行地，在牛皮哄哄的另一端，安静地用声音改变的环境。
