"Flotsam" and "jetsam" are nautical terms, describing goods washed overboard by waves (flotsam) or deliberately thrown overboard by a ship's crew (jetsam). Founded in 1981 as Paradox by Kelly David-Smith, Pete Mello and Dave Goulder, later joined by Jason Newsted who left the band in 1986 in order to join Metallica. They've shared the stage with the likes of Acid Reign, Alcatrazz, Anthrax, Armored Saint, Bitch, Dark Angel, Death Angel, Destruction, Exciter, Exodus, Hirax, Icon, King Diamond, Kreator, Malice, Megadeth, Mercyful Fate, Metal Church, Overkill, Pantera, Prong, Riot, Sacred Reich, Sepultura, Slayer, Testament, and White Zombie.
