1997年乐队发行的《The More Things Change……》再次为Machine Head赢得了如潮的好评，Machine Head以一首“Ten Ton Hammer”(十吨大锤)彻底砸烂了人们先前关于音乐中“重”的概念，并且公布了最新的噪音分贝标准。对于这种噪音的评价，《滚石》杂志只用了一个词来形容枣Killer(杀手)，这足以说明一切。
Machine Head的成功并不完全取决于他们的技术，Anthrax、Slayer在这方面的确要高出这些毛头小伙一大截。但请注意！这是噪音！人性中恐惧、愤怒最原始的外在表现，无需眼花缭乱的炫技，布鲁斯的大师风范也成了多余，你需要的只是将它们最大限度释放出来的能力。这当然不是说谁声大谁玩得就好，隐藏在这种噪音背后的狂热激情才是他们真正的灵魂。许多重量级乐队虽然保持了高分贝的音量，却已毫无杀伤力，显得外强中乾。相比之下，Machine Head的作品中自始至终充斥着一种源于内心深处的狂热力量，这在很大程度上得益于著名的噪音制作大师Ross Robinson。Ross曾制作过Korn、Limp Bizkit及Sepulture的作品，可谓经验老道，尤其是Ross对于音乐的敏锐洞察力及恰到好处的驾驭能力更是出类拔粹。Robb Flynn对此评价说：“Ross绝对是个天才，他的伟大之处在于，他总是能够看透我们的心思，准确地捕捉到我们的灵魂，并将它们一点点融入我们的作品中。”这种被赋予了生命的声音将Machine Head野蛮残酷的欲望表现得淋漓尽至，《The More Thing Change……》毫无争议地成为了当时最“重”的专辑。
1999年Machine Head趁热打铁推出了《The Burning Red》，这是Machine Head有史以来水平最高的专辑，在保持了原班人马的情况下，Machine Head在专辑后期混缩过程中请来了Terry Date(曾参与制作Pantera、Deftones、Soundgarden的专辑)。Flynn评价道：“Terry能够帮助我们在音乐上付出最小的代价的情况下获得最大的商业成功”。Machine Head在《The Burning Red》的创作过程中很是下了一番功夫，Flynn眉飞色舞地在一次记者招待会说到：“在我们的作品上市前，绝对没有成品这个概念，即使在进录音棚的一刻，我们仍在试图改进我们的作品，甚至可能全部否定一首歌，直至找到我们想要的那种效果，也就是他们所说的‘杀手’的感觉。”值得注意的是，《The Burning Red》中竟然翻唱了警察乐队的一首老歌“Message In The Bottle”，这的确令人有点意外。但Machine Head对此却颇不以为然，“我们在早期的一些作品中还翻唱过Ice-T的‘Colors’及Nirvana的‘Negative Creep’，我必须承认他们的音乐对我们是有一定影响，但我们根本没有必要去幕仿他们。‘Message In The Bottle’在这张专辑中绝对是支Machine Head风格的作品。所以请你暂时忘了警察乐队，因为我们是独一无二的。”Flynn同时表达了即将开始大规模巡演的意愿：“我们希望能够通过现场演出或电台的非商业播出，将我们的噪音尽可能地输入到那些尚不了解我们的人的脑子里，我希望每一个人都能淹没在我们巨大的噪音中不能自拔。为了这个目标，我们情愿巡演到世界末日的那一天。”
